TLL Activation server

Basic information

TLL Activation server is online service built on top of TreeksLicensingLibrary2.dll. It extends TLL Core functionality by specific and advanced licensing features. TLL Activation server is optional. It is possible to use TLL Core to develop your own activation server.

Basically, some licensing tasks can be done offline:

Generation of license codes/files
Verification of license codes/files
Checking the hardware identification
Checking the system clock
Checking the license data and customizing program features according to it
and few more things

However, for some tasks, you must have your own online licensing server:

Sending out license codes automatically after purchase via e-mail
Checking if license was revoked by you
Enforcing licensing policy by automatic silent reactivation
- This way you do not provide permanent licenses to users, but you provide temporary licenses. It means, that if you revoke license and user goes offline, it will expire in some time anyway and won’t be renewed.
Automatically track on how many devices was product key used, limit the number of computers per license
Hiding all (possibly huge) license info to just 25 characters of product key (can be even shortened upon your request)
Automatically activate license on previously activated computer after OS reinstall
Automatically migrate customer license from broken PC to new PC (without support contact)

One exception – current date/time check

Activation server is not required to make online system clock check, rendering computer clock manipulation useless. Generally, TLL Core always tries to resolve current time using NTP protocol from remote server – default or specified by you. If you considered activation server just for time verification, there is no need.

- Activation server can be installed on any Windows Server (2008+, IIS & MSSQL Express & ASP.NET) device.
- With few shared hosting prividers TLL Activation server may not work. Running TLL Activation server requires .NET Full trust environment. Using shared hosting for critical systems like licensing is also not recommended practice. If you plan to use shared Windows hosting for activation server anyway, pelase check if your provider can provide full trust to run the application.
